Letter of the Week for M

Marvelous Letter M!  We introduce our letter with Glimmercat finding milk and saying, "Mmmmmmm"...

We also have our special letter song that tells the story using a familiar tune:

My daughter loves this song and getting to say, "Mmmmm!" with expression.   Such a fun introduction!

I don't always mention the color sheets we offer, but I did want to here, because allowing children to play with their letters is such a delightful learning task.  Here, she is creating M out of playdough, using the color sheet as a playdough mat.

Let's talk about the "M is for Mitten" day. The book, "The Mitten" be Jan Brett is an often used tool in primary grades.  We offer a great craft to go along with this wonderful story:

For "M is for Monkey" to see we offer a puzzle and craft for this favorite preschool and kinder animal.

Kids can cut out the rectangle (for the background picture of the monkey) and they might need help cutting out the head and tail pieces.

Then, with the help of an adult, paint the four fingers and just a part of the hand with brown paint.  Slap this on the paper (well, maybe not literally) and you will have the monkey hanging from a vine.

Next we glued on the head and tail, and it's just a fun and easy craft that little ones are awfully proud of when all is said and done.

Another craft from our Letter of the week packet is this cute little Mouse craft down below:

After cutting out the shapes, you swirl that little cone together and add the ears and tail...

This little mouse was a favorite with my little girl.  She liked to put it on her finger like a little puppet...

A very fun story to go along with this little mouse would be Mouse Paint.  With the help of a tube sock for the snake on the other hand, you could have a lot of fun dramatizing this great story.

Speaking of this great book, we designed our Reading Literacy Activity for this one.

While I was trying to come up with which other M crafts I wanted to do for this packet, we were working on these fun little Mushroom seats for the kids:  http://glimmercat.blogspot.com/2015/08/enchanting-poky-bush.html and my son commented, "Hey, Mommy!  M is for Mushrooms!"

So, thereupon we came up with an extra added on M craft to match those little seats for the kids:

These were pretty simple little guys to make.  Simple egg carton cells have been painted for the mushroom caps.

Then, we added the white spots with another Q-tip paint brush.  After that, we dropped a dollop of glue inside a stuck in half of a paper straw.  You could also use a plastic straw with hot glue.

One thing I wanted to share in this post is the fact that we used "Motorcycle" in our flash cards.

I  love finding things that will really excite boys about letters!  I think this fun motorcycle flash card will help do that!

That's our rough summary of our letter M packet, which you can find at our store here
